Judo – Competitions

The first Judo competition was very different to how we know and understand it today. Only one score was valid, and the contest was fought until one of the Judoka scored, this was a ‘one point’ score IPPON. Some time later a ‘half point’ score WAZARI was added, along with contest time limits.

The British Judo Association was formed in 1948, and is the Sports Governing Body for Judo in the U.K. and the Channel Islands. The British Judo Association comes under The International Judo Federation which is the World Governing Body for Judo.
